Great bike ride up to and around Markham Lake. Cold and windy! Pedaled around town to get our bearings. A quintessential, authentic western town.





A cooler town than expected, with heart and authenticity. Great bike trails, history, and bison burgers (not that I would know exactly). Visited the dam, and relaxed at the K3 ranch, literally off the beaten path. Plus Tom got to wash all the Montana dust off the car.

    I guess I am the only one responding to your pictures. Loved the one with you on the ground with your bikes on both sides of you. Beautiful scenery as well. Hope you aren't getting altitude sickness to badly. Keep the pictures coming. Paula

Moose!

Finally, saw my moose! Actually a mother and baby (first just with its ears showing above the tall grass), at Sprague  Lake at sunrise. Plus the “alpine glow” of the sun rising on a clear morning. Continued on our guided tour to see areas we hadn't seen yet, Bear Lake, Moraine Park in daylight, up Trail Ridge Road (highest continuous road in lower 48) to Holwarth, site of the bootleggers long ago. Crossed Continental Divide several times, and saw devastation from last year's park fires. Passed Pourdre Lake where we saw, wait for it, 3 more moose! (Believe me. They were too far away for a clear phone pic.) Many thanks to Full Potential Wilderness for a terrific personalized tour.

Crossing Borders

Butchart Gardens! One of my faves. Got there at 9am to avoid the noisy masses. Picnic lunch at Thetsis Lake Regional Park returning to Victoria. Lots of bathers and paddle boarders. Spent a relaxing, rainy day walking around, enjoying the waterfront and neighborhoods. Found the Alice Munro bookstore - great shop! A very bike friendly city with terraces for most of the apartments. We could live here! Took the return ferry July 4th to Olympic National Park. A whale and dolphins, and then grouse, mink? And more mule deer. Another cloudy day, with the Olympic Mountains playing peekabo. Wet and verdant. And snow!
